Iona Galley Sunset Scottish Brooch - Sterling Silver BI11
Beautifully cast from the finest sterling silver, this circular brooch measures 7/8" (24mm) in diameter and has a C clasp pin back. This item is in Brand New Condition..................but looks like it could be over 100 years old. This is a gorgeous piece of Scottish jewellery that will become your family heirloom.
This is a vintage design and features a Scottish galley long ship in full sail against a sunset background.
Scottish Celtic galleys or long ships were one of the favorite subjects of the Celtic Revival period. Celtic Galleys are distinguishable from Norse long ships by having a straight stern post on which a rudder is hung, instead of a steering-oar over the starboard side. The other major difference between Celtic and Norse vessels is that the Celts riveted the planks instead of lashing them together.
